Edwards Career Mentorship Program

Program Overview

We are excited to re-launch our Edwards Career Mentorship Program! This program is where we partner with professionals in the business community (many of whom are Edwards Alumni) to participate and mentor one or more of our undergraduate B.Comm students (upper year, all majors including Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, Management, Marketing, and Supply Chain Management) from October to March. These relationships enable students and business leaders to exchange knowledge and experience relating to skill, culture and values. Early Bird Mentor Application period is in June/July of each year. This program is open to Mentors who are business professionals with a minimum of 7+ years’ experience in the workforce.

Why be a Mentor?

There are many reasons why maintaining a strong relationship with the business school is a win-win situation. The program provides opportunities to expand your network by connecting with fellow alumni and professionals within the business community. It also allows you to earn professional development (PD) hours, which contribute towards maintaining or obtaining designations/certifications, enhances your future career prospects, and bolsters your skillset. Lastly, if you're an alumni of ours, it’s an opportunity to re-engage with Edwards!

Cost and Time Commitment

There is no cost to this program for either the Mentee or Mentor.

Time commitment in the program will vary with each individual. Minimum expectations include:

  • Virtual Program Launch (October 16, 12:00-1:00pm CST)
  • Arrange a first meeting (October, 1-2 hrs)
  • Meet once a month (in person, e-mail and/or telephone) (1-2 hours/month)

How to Apply

"The Edwards Career Mentorship Program was a highly rewarding experience for me as a mentor. Apart from the obvious benefit of sharing knowledge, experiences, and networks with the mentee, I found that the mentees brought their own unique perspectives and challenged my thinking. That was a great learning experience for me. It was refreshing and satisfying to be able to give back to our alma mater and positively influence a developing leader."
Nishit Gandhi, CRA
"Being a mentor is one of the most rewarding roles I've taken on in my professional journey. I continually find myself inspired and challenged by the fresh perspectives, creativity, and ambition of those I mentor. It keeps me learning, growing, and evolving both personally and professionally. There's a deep sense of fulfillment in seeing someone gain clarity, reach a milestone, or simply feel more empowered because of a conversation we shared."
Brittany McIntyre, SaskPower
"The Edwards Career Mentorship Program is one of the best I've participated in. It has the right level of structure and attention to detail to make it a deeply rewarding program for both the mentee and mentor. I'd highly recommend participating in the program!"
Fred Reibin, Saskatoon Community Foundation
"I find tremendous value participating in the Edwards Career Mentorship Program. It is refreshing to hear the perspectives of students who are nearing graduation and looking forward to starting their professional careers. I learn a lot from the students and look forward to our mentorship meetings throughout the program."
Diana Domm Smythe, Federated Co-operatives Limited
"Participating in the Edwards Career Mentorship Program was a highly rewarding experience. The program created a meaningful platform to share real world insight, challenge assumptions, and help students translate academic learning into practical career thinking. The structure of the program made engagement easy, purposeful, and respectful of time, while still allowing for genuine connection. What stood out most was the quality of conversations, mentees came prepared, asked thoughtful questions, and were sincerely invested in their growth. It was motivating to see how a few focused discussions could help students gain clarity, confidence, and direction. The support and organization from the Edwards team were excellent throughout, making the experience seamless and impactful. I would strongly encourage professionals to participate as mentors. The program offers a chance to give back in a meaningful way while staying connected to emerging talent and fresh perspectives."
Devin Baker, Suncorp Valuations
"This was my first year in the mentorship program and it was a very rewarding experience. I had the opportunity to share practical insights while seeing familiar concepts through a fresh perspective. My mentee was very open to learning, and super smart, and pushed me to think more critically about my own campaigns and strategies. It was very fulfilling to watch their confidence grow over the months as they reflected on our conversations and applied what we discussed."
Jeff Drake, Calian
“I have been a mentor for two years with three students and the experiences with each of them was so different and yet rewarding. The students came with an eagerness to learn, and I was happy to provide them with the wisdom I could provide, having followed the education path they are taking post-graduate myself. The students enjoyed coming to my workplace and getting to experience firsthand what it was like to work at our organization, a much different setting than they are used to. I enjoy passing along my unique experience to the students and the conversations are never boring. Looking forward to being back next year!”
Evan Schemenauer, LMNO Consulting
“Great and rewarding program! I look forward to partaking again next year!”
Mitch Nemeth, City of Saskatoon
“I was able to meet an incredible young individual as she was starting to work towards her career in HR post-graduation. We spoke about challenges in the marketplace, where to start, and how to make meaningful connections. She was able to take what she's learned and what we spoke about, go through her network, make a connection, and successfully land a job that would help her begin navigating the HR field after graduation. It was incredibly fulfilling and heartwarming to see her success!”
Hanna Fazal, Enterprise Mobility
“I was very impressed with the Edwards Career Mentorship Program. The mentee they selected for me was one I see huge potential in career development, willing to learn and has excellent international experience. My mentee was not shy from approaching contacts I provided, and I am happy to see that a job offer was received prior to graduation. We both learn a lot from each other, and I thank the Edwards School of Business for this opportunity for me to give something back to the younger generation in Saskatchewan.”
Winston Khan, Ministry of Trade and Export Development
