After over 20 successful years in the financial industry in Calgary, John left his corporate role behind to focus on new ventures in the clean technology and energy industry through entrepreneurship. Throughout this episode, John highlights the numerous times the connections he made during his time at university and throughout his career have been of great influence and importance. From identifying new career opportunities to helping him as he ventured into entrepreneurship, relationships have been of the utmost importance to John and a major credit to where he is today.   

John has his Bachelors of Commerce in Finance from the Edwards School of Business. John is a finance and capital markets professional with over 20 years of energy industry and senior banking experience. He is currently CEO of Lucky Strike Energy Ltd. and W4 Solar Ltd. and serves as Chairperson of the Board for E3 Lithium Ltd.  

Previously, John served as Vice President with ATB Financial and was responsible for the credit portfolio within energy, oil field services, project finance, and financial markets. Prior to this, John co-founded and held the position of Senior Vice President Finance and CFO of an Alberta-based, private equity-backed intermediate E&P producer. He is a CFA Charterholder and holds an ICD.D designation.  

In 2017, John was recognized as a Calgary “Top 40 under 40” and in 2023 he was awarded the Queen Elizabeth Platinum Jubilee medal.
