10 Edwards Students receive over $20,000 in 2024 Co-operative Education Program Scholarships
The Edwards Co-operative Education Program provides business students with an 8-12-month work placement in their field of interest. This enables students the opportunity to build their professional development and receive practical experience.
After 8 months of co-op placements, the Edwards School of Business hosts their annual Co-op Open House. During this event, new and returning co-op students can network with employers and one another. This year, there were over 170 incoming undergraduate and MBA students looking to find placements in January. In addition, there were 142 returning students who also attended the event after completing their 8-month work placement.
The Co-op Open House event also presents the Edwards Co-operative Education Program scholarships that are awarded to students after completing the co-op program. There were 6 award categories including 2 student nominated and 4 employer nominated, and a total of 10 awards given worth a total of $21,500.
The following two awards are student nominated.
Federated Co-operatives Limited Student Experience Award: given to two students with a monetary value of $2,500 each, this award recognizes students who embraced the overall co-operative education experience. To be eligible, students must submit a statement outlining how they embraced their Co-op experience and why they should be considered. The 2024 award recipients are:
Michaela Jensen: majoring in Marketing and worked for Affinity Credit Union in Saskatoon.
Brianne Stadnichuk: majoring in Marketing and worked for Rock & Bloom in Saskatoon.
Leo Bruce Thordarson Business Co-operative Award: given to a student with a monetary value of $2,500, this award is presented to a continuing undergraduate student in the co-operative Education Program at the Edwards School of Business. To be eligible, students must submit a statement explaining how this award will assist them in shaping their future career. The 2024 award recipient is:
Tiana Watt: majoring in Finance and worked for Affinity Credit Union in Saskatoon.
The following four awards are employer nominated.
Edwards Co-operative Education Program Student Achievement Award: given to four students with a monetary value of $2,000 each, this award recognizes students who have made outstanding contributions in their co-operative education work placement. The 2024 award recipients are:
Emerson Bear: majoring in Human Resources and worked for First Nations Bank of Canada in Saskatoon.
Randy Gee: majoring in Marketing and worked for Student Recruitment, University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon.
Jackson Leonard: majoring in Finance and worked for Nutrien in Rocanville.
Raelie McCormick: majoring in Management and worked for Prince Albert Co-operative Health Centre in Prince Albert.
Edwards Co-operative Education Program Accounting Placement Student Achievement Award: given to a student with a monetary value of $2,000, this award recognizes students who have made a significant contribution in their co-operative education accounting-related work placement. The 2024 award recipient is:
Kenny Davey: majoring in Accounting and worked for HTH CPAs in Saskatoon.
The MNP Accounting Scholarship for Co-operative Students: given to a student with a monetary value of $2,500, this award recognizes an undergraduate student pursuing a B.Comm. degree in the Edwards School of Business that completes the Co-op program in accounting. The 2024 award recipient is:
Kendall Walker: majoring in Accounting and worked for BDO Canada in Saskatoon.
The Vendasta Scholarship for Co-operative Students: given to a student with a monetary value of $1,500, this award is given to a student in the BComm program that have completed their Co-op placement in Marketing, Human Resources, or Management. The 2024 award recipient is:
Claire Durand: majoring in Human Resources and worked for Correctional Service Canada.
