Dr. Maureen Bourassa (PhD) has been appointed Associate Dean, Academic at the Edwards School of Business, effective January 1, 2024. Her appointment will span five years.

Dr. Bourassa is currently an Associate Professor of Management and Marketing at the Edwards School of Business and holds an Edwards Enhancement Chair in Business scholar position. She has previously held the roles of Graduate Chair for the Master of Science in Marketing Program and Department Head of Management and Marketing.

Bourassa earned her Bachelor of Commerce in 2000 from the University of Saskatchewan. She then attended Queen’s School of Business, where she completed her MSc and PhD in Management.

Her research explores the role of respect in the marketplace including consumer and business-to-business relationships. She investigates why respect is crucial and how organizations can effectively foster and communicate it. A central theme is that respect, alongside trust, is vital in marketing and business contexts. Bourassa’s other research centers on stakeholder engagement, specifically how socially responsible organizations can effectively engage stakeholders and overcome challenges in adversarial interactions. Her passion for including often-overlooked stakeholders highlights the importance of integrating respect into the engagement process. How can organizations ensure that respect is a fundamental part of this process?

Bourassa’s research on mutual respect has since been published in the European Journal of Marketing, the Journal of Public Policy & Marketing, the Journal of Consumer Affairs, and Science Communication, to name a few.

As the Associate Dean, Bourassa’s responsibilities will span undergraduate programs, study abroad, Edwards Career Services, curriculum renewal, experiential learning and much more.

She says one of her primary goals is centered around fostering a sense of belonging to ensure that every member of the Edwards community feels included. “Ideally, student, staff, and faculty member should feel like they belong here and have purpose,” explained Bourassa.

Bourassa replaces former Associate Dean, Noreen Mahoney.
