Program Overview
The Leadership Development Program (LDP) is a 5-day highly interactive and experiential program that will teach you the proven leadership practices and skills you need to know to achieve your leadership potential.
The people in your organization who are in leadership positions must know how to bring out the best in everyone. Effective leaders are trustworthy, confident, and encourage employees to grow, take risks, and excel in their positions. As leaders are needed at all levels of the organization, the optimal scenario is to have all of your employees take on a leadership role.
Your Leadership Style and Impact on Others
Explore why leadership development is a growth industry and what it means to be an effective leader. Learn about the five competencies that influence leadership success, as based on the research of Jim Kouzes and Barry Posner. Increase awareness of your leadership strengths and areas for development through 360 feedback and self-assessment activities, and take the first step in developing a leadership development plan.
Leading Change
Rather than manage change, adopt an approach of leading change. Step out in front and embrace change as an opportunity both professionally and personally.
We will learn about change by leading a company through it via an immersive full-day simulation! Working in teams, we will help “GlobalTech” navigate a change in their strategy. Some of the employees think this change is great, some are on the fence, and some are completely opposed. Given a timeframe of 18 months and budget of $500K, your team will create a change plan aimed at boosting the level of cultural buy-in from the current level of 6% to over 60%. In this module we will:
- Understand why leading change effectively is critical for team and organizational success.
- Explore best-practices for leading change effectively.
- Build, implement, and refine a change plan based on real-time feedback.
- Increase your ability to lead people/teams through change.
- Gain specific skills, knowledge, and tools for leading change in your workplace.
Building High Performance Teams
Outstanding leaders know how to bring out the best in individuals and groups. How do we create the conditions in our workplaces that foster collaboration and strengthen people? In this module, we will compare models of teamwork and assess your team against a model. We will explore the benefits, barriers, and ingredients of high performing teams, and apply your skills in a team-building simulation. Enabling others to act incorporates aspects of other core leadership practices.
Coaching and Feedback
Recognizing the unique contributions of others, showing appreciation in diverse work environments and celebrating values and victories by fostering inclusively and purpose. In this module, we will explore different types of coaching and explore diagnostic tools for determining the type of coaching needed. We will practice and demonstrate coaching and feedback skills in small groups with real workplace scenarios. Together, modeling the way and encouraging the heart are exemplary leadership practices that build effective relationships and sustain organizations.
Application and Integration
This module will summarize the entire Leadership Development Program. We will recap the key elements of the assessment tools you completed, review the five practices that make up the backbone of the program, summarize the core content of each day within the program, integrate program concepts together, challenge ourselves to apply the program going forward, and discuss next steps. We will also work in teams to complete an experiential learning simulation that serves as the capstone of the program. Finally, we will also provide certificates to you to recognize program completion.
Leadership Assessment You will complete a leadership competency assessment to help you identify your leadership strengths and opportunities for improvement. |
Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) Learn about your personality type and others through the MBTI Step I, which describes your personality as a collection of preferences. |
Change Leadership Simulation You will learn about change by leading, “GlobalTech”, through an innovative, interactive and webified simulation. |
Innovative Learning Approach Based on contemporary principles of interactive and experiential learning, LDP builds knowledge and skills through group participation, practice, self-assessments, reflection, and up-to-date materials. |

Brent Pederson, MEd, CPHR Brent Pederson is a trusted talent advisor with 15 years of experience in 2 global consulting firms, has worked in 8 countries, is consistently a top-rated consultant, workshop facilitator, conference presenter, and regularly publishes articles. He previously spent 15 years in the energy sector with 10 of those years in a direct leadership role. Brooke Klassen, BComm, MBA, CMgr Brooke Klassen is an Assistant Professor at the Edwards School of Business, University of Saskatchewan. With more than fifteen years of post-secondary experience, her teaching specializations include marketing, business strategy, decision making and entrepreneurship. Prior to her role as a professor, she was a senior administrator in the Edwards School of Business and led a team of student services staff for almost eight years. Brooke has been a management consultant for almost eight years and has completed more than 70 projects in the areas of strategy, governance, organizational change and communications. Her client list includes private, public, government and Indigenous organizations from a variety of industries. She is also an accomplished author and her work has been published in several well-respected peer reviewed journals. |

Leah Reid, BBA, CPHR Leah is currently Director, Total Reward & Job Evaluation for SGI. With a diverse HR background, Leah is passionate about supporting leaders to drive high performance team. A life-long experiencer of food and wine, Leah started her career in the wine industry working in sales for a national boutique wine agency in Vancouver. She would later transition to head up the HR department for the same company. Returning home to Regina after 10 years in Vancouver, Leah took on a new challenge with Korn Ferry Hay Group where she worked as Leadership and Reward consultant for several years. Following that, she was the Vice President of Human Resources and Community Engagement for GMS overseeing all things culture, employee experience, and leadership. |

Penelope (Penny) Popp, P.Eng., MBA, PMP Chief Executive Officer of Pyvot Consulting Inc., Penny Popp is a professional engineer that has practiced leadership for over 25 years. Penny’s experience includes a successful history of directing technical professionals in delivering multi-million-dollar infrastructure projects in the public sector. She is known for solving complex issues facing teams and organizations through her ability to navigate complex technical and behavioural strategies. Susan Bens, PhD Susan currently works as a specialist in program design and instruction, supporting faculty at the University of Saskatchewan who want to improve in these areas. She facilitates change at the group level and is a “thinking partner” to leaders who pursue strategic directions and make requests of others that are both innovative and manageable. Susan has lead teams herself, including as a Director of a diverse set of student service units comprised of more than 60 professional staff. Susan regularly teaches graduate courses in organizational theory and educational leadership as a sessional instructor. Rick Reid, PME, BComm, CPHR Rick Reid is a human resources professional with over twenty years of experience in a variety of strategic advisory and leadership positions in both public and private sector organizations. The Corporate Learning Consultant and a program facilitator and coach with Executive Education at the Edwards School of Business, Rick has a Bachelor of Commerce from Edwards, a Professional Master of Education from Queen’s University, holds a CPHR designation, and is a Certified Leadership Coach. Rick has worked in a number of industries including education, health care, local government and energy services, and in his work with Executive Education, engages with participants and organizations across all industries. his career has primarily focused in the areas of employee and labour relations, and employee learning and development. Chris Antonopoulos is a human resources professional with 17 years of experience across a number of strategic Human Resources and Organizational Development roles in both the Co-operative and Post-Secondary sectors. Currently a member of the Human Resources-Organizational Development team at the University of Saskatchewan, Chris holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the Edwards School of Business. Chris’s career has primarily focused on the areas of Employee Learning, Organizational Development, Leadership Development and Talent Management design and delivery. Chris has extensive experience in adult learning and learning facilitation has also had extensive experience in helping to support organizational-change initiatives and in supporting strategic business planning processes.
